Call To Arms- Cancer Council ACT

Call To Arms is a community sports campaign that aims to raise funds and awareness for men’s cancers. The campaign involves different codes, players and clubs of all levels, allocating one match in their fixture during the month of July, to wear a yellow arm band (the yellow arm bands are a show of honour and respect for men with cancer), make a donation and fundraise to help save the lives of men throughout Australia.

By Clubs registering to wear yellow armbands, the funds they raise will help fight cancer in men. 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they turn 85. More than 62,500 Australian men are expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year. While cancer is one of the leading causes of death among Australian men, around one third of all cancers can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices.

Please join other clubs supporting Call To Arms by registering your club today at www.calltoarms.com.au. Alternatively, you can call 1300 65 65 85 and we can register you by phone.

Out There 2 Thurs to Sun 10am-4pm

Out There 2 is the 2010 Canberra Photographic Society Annual Exhibition. The society is one of Canberra’s longest established community organisations. It has been presenting annual group exhibitions for a great many years. In 2009 the Society presented an exhibition “Out There” at Watson Arts Centre, for the first time at that venue, with very positive public response.
In 2010, their sequel exhibition, Out There 2, explores the same broad aims as in 2009, to show and share:
Photographic images out there in the public eye;
Photographers out there finding, capturing, processing and presenting photographic images;
Some photographers extending their imagery further 'out there' for expressive or aesthetic reasons or to explore new ideas.
Although the aims and title are very similar to last year’s exhibition, the images and responses are new.
The exhibition includes a wide range of photographic images in the traditional sense: observing and recording the world around us and capturing specific moments.
The title further reflects the way that photographers and photographic artists actively go beyond their local surroundings, and often beyond their comfort zones, in the search for images that reflect their personal interests and ideas.
Finally, the exhibition includes some images that might be seen as ‘out there’ because of the extent to which the photographs have been manipulated, processed, combined or presented, imaginatively transformed to extend the image for personal expression or to build new ideas.
This exhibition comprises a wide range of high quality and stimulating images, well worth a visit!

1st to 11th July at Watson Arts Centre, Aspinall Street, Watson. Open Thursday to Sunday 10am-4pm
