Jeff Mincham: Ceramics 10am-4pm
Jeff Mincham is one of Australia’s most prominent and influential ceramic artists with a career spanning more than thirty years. His exceptional craft skills and extraordinary body of work are being honoured through an Object Gallery touring exhibition as part of the Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft series.
Mincham is an artist in his creative prime and his most recent work showcases the unique results of his passionate research and experimentation with surface textures and firing techniques. With a reputation for monumental vessels, Mincham draws on his connection with and passion for the South Australian countryside where he lives and works. The surfaces of his large elliptical forms reflect his direct experience with the patterns and colours of the landscape: the Coorong, Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills.
Mincham’s masterpieces feature in many of the great ceramic collections of this country, including The Art Gallery of South Australia, The National Gallery of Australia, The National Gallery of Victoria and the Powerhouse Museum, as well as many private collections. Mincham is also represented in many collections internationally.
Jeff Mincham: Ceramics opened at Object Gallery in November 2009 and is currently touring across the country, assisted by Visions of Australia. Canberra Potters Society is delighted to bring this exhibition to Canberra audiences.
The exhibition will be opened by Greg Daly of the ANU School of Art Ceramics Workshop at 6pm on Friday 16th July. At 10.30am on Saturday 17th July, Greg will conduct an interview with Jeff Mincham in the gallery - sure to give a fascinating insight into the man and his work.
