Have you ever wanted to amaze family and friends with your 'mystical' power to make them stronger or give them more balance? Richard's demonstrations will have you fooling them all. This is also your chance to test your ability to divine for water. Got what it takes? If so, there is a $100,000 prize waiting for you.

This event promises to be a fun-filled event full of laughter and learning. We may even get a visit by fellow Mystery Investigator, Dr Rachael Dunlop.

Richard Saunders is the author of over 30 books for children covering such topics as nature, magic, sports and origami and appeared on many kids TV shows and in 2008 was seen as the Skeptical Judge on CH.7's "The One".
He is also one of Australia’s leading investigators into claims of the paranormal and the supernatural. A documentary maker, Richard recently produced the definitive DVD on the history of water divining in Australia.

Issues which Divide Skeptics 6-7.30pm

Canberra Skeptics Inc. and the Australian National University College of Medicine, Biology and Environment Present an ANU Public Lecture

Speaker: Dr Martin Bridgstock.

Lecture Theatre 2, Manning Clark Centre
Union Court, Australian National University

Belief in the paranormal, according to a wide range of polls and measures, hovers at about 80% of the Australian population. The Australian skeptics are a small network of people who keep demanding evidence for paranormal beliefs. They test dowsers and psychics, criticise creationists and expose quackery in alternative medicine.

Despite all this activity, skeptics disagree on some fairly fundamental issues. What is the link between skepticism and atheism, if any? What should skeptics think about human-induced climate change? Should there be a national organisation, to which all Australian skeptics can belong? These are questions about which skeptics disagree sharply, and sometimes angrily.

In this talk, for the first time, a prominent skeptic tackles all of these issues head-on.
The aim will not be to push a particular viewpoint, but to open the issues up for profitable thinking and discussion. By the end of the talk, you will know what the speaker things about the issues, and why, but you will also have the chance to articulate your own views.

Dr Martin Bridgstock, a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, has been associated with the skeptical movement for more than 25 years. He runs the highly successful course Skepticism, Science and the Paranormal, which has won several teaching prizes. He is a former joint Australian Skeptic of the year, a consultant to CSI, and has also won the Australian Skeptics’ Prize for Critical Thinking. His skeptical book Beyond Belief was published by Cambridge University Press last year.

Dinner will follow the lecture (venue tbc). To RSVP for the dinner please contact act1@skeptics.com.au.

White Lab Coat/Black Trench Coat: The Science of Spying  6-7.30pm

AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF PROFESSIONAL INTELLIGENCE OFFICERS AND THE ANU COLLEGE OF SCIENCE PRESENT:

An ANU Public Lecture featuring Steve Longford.

Manning Clarke Lecture Theatre 2, Union Court, ANU

This lecture is free and open to the public.

Enquiries and Registration: president@aipio.asn.au or T: 0429 291 555

Before computers, telephones and the internet, when one country wanted to know what another was doing, their operatives would go there to collect information. With technology, intelligence agencies collect information differently; however they still use the same scientific approach. This has resulted in a renewed emphasis on the human component of intelligence collection and analysis. This lecture will explore the latest approaches in collecting and analysing information for intelligence.

Mr Steve Longford is a former detective, senior intelligence analyst and behavioural analyst for the Queensland Police. He also worked as head of the Violent Crime Analysis unit with the Queensland Police. He has extensive experience in providing intelligence solutions to law enforcement, intelligence and compliance agencies in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom by combining different facets of profiling, psychology, deception detection, body-language, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and interview methodologies into a single tool called Behavioural Intelligence

Steve Longford is now the managing director of New Intelligence, a Canberra based company that specialises in developing and providing training programs for interviewing, intelligence analysis, decision making and the unique Human Skills program.

An Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers networking function will follow the lecture. To Register, please contact Greg McAnulty on 0429 291 555 or president@aipio.asn.au.
